About UIQ
UIQ is a user friendly and customizable user interface platform for pen-based and one-handed mobile phones based on Symbian OS. The user interface of a mobile phone is the software that the end user interacts with, providing full use of the device and application suites. Technically, the user interface platform is the layer between the operating system and applications. UIQ is designed to offer fast and easy access to the wide variety of data services in 2.5G and 3G networks. UIQ based phones are powerful and give access to enterprise applications, email, multimedia clips and web pages. Excellent interaction and graphical capabilities also provides support for advanced gaming possibilities.
Today there are more than 1000 applications available for devices based on the UIQ Platform. Applications for UIQ come in a well balanced product mix from an enthusiastic developer community, which is proven by the fact that more than a fifth (1/5th) of all applications are categorized as freeware, shareware or open source. The applications available for UIQ are distributed as ½ of consumer applications, ¼ games with the remaining ¼ divided between communications, business and developer applications. With the consumer category having broad coverage, this provides for a wide selection of different types of applications. "There's something there for everyone"
UIQ enables licensees extensive differentiation possibilities in mobile phone development. The flexibility of the platform means that mobile phones, based on UIQ, can have a unique “look and feel” even when compared with other phones based on UIQ.
