Nokia N85 goes on sale in Finland and France
The much-awaited Nokia N85 is now available in Finland, and it also seems to have now gone on sale in France too. It's already been available in Italy for a short while now, and presumably should get a continent-wide rollout as the month goes on. The package deal of the SIM-free model varies from country to country, but most people seem to get a voucher for some free Nokia Music Store tracks, a free Nokia Maps subscription and a free N-Gage game.

Comment: According to the eXpansys website they have 17 in stock @ £449.99 and they say the following:
"Were expecting a small number of Nokia N85's this week friday ahead of the UK release. We have enough stock for those customers who pre-ordered. However securing stock early has also meant that we've had to pay more for the devices. For those customers who pre-ordered with us though, will honour the original pre-order price. " Also Play.com will have it in stock 22nd Oct for £429.99. How exciting.

Comment: It appears to be on offer here http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/Nokia/Nseries-Multimedia-Phones/sb489/n443/p2816.aspx on a vodafone contract. Word on the street is that Vodafone and Three will be stocking it in the immediate future.

That explanation doesn't sound very convincing. :-)
Well, the price should go down as usual after the "early adopter tax" phase.

Comment: It is now also available in Singapore through Singtel (https://www.singtelshop.com/). However, there is an introduction offer in the newspapers that is even better what is advertised on the website. Offers, of course, with a plan.

Comment: Got mine on Thursday 16th from an eBay seller for £399. It was supposed to come from London, but was actually sent from China. It does seem to be the authentic UK version though, so I am happy.

Always dodgy. Many a person (including me) have got a letter from the lovely customs people later on, demanding a VAT charge.
There are a few sellers on ebay that get these phones from China, then sell them from the UK.
Even if they do claim to send them from the UK, ask for clarifacation that they will pay any import fees before you buy.
I was going to go this way, but none of them do the copper version.

Comment: KamHo, like bartmanekul says I would steer clear of buying anything that expensive from a Chinese seller on ebay (unless you live in China of course).
If something is wrong with that phone you will be totally on your own, there's no way any manufacturer would take responsibility for a device purchased by such a route.
Also, £399 is more or less the same as the price from ordinary shops in Europe, why not just get one from them? Guarantees on electronics bought within the EU are valid in all other EU countries too, and there's no import tax either because it's a free trade zone.

You consider 5mp cameras, VGA camcorders, TV Out, HSDPA, GPS, 2.6" OLED screens, smartphone abilities, Wi-Fi etc to be basic features?
:-)

(What is so special about) 5mp cameras, VGA camcorders, TV Out, HSDPA, GPS, 2.6" OLED screens, smartphone abilities, Wi-Fi
The tube have all this for less the price? there isn't much difference between 3mp and 5mp common sense will always prevail.

I agree, but I thought I was buying from a dealer in London and it costs £58 more from Expansys.
