Presenting the Cityman 450 anti-theft device for the Nokia N97
Nokia's sent us one of their Cityman 450 anti-theft units designed for the Nokia N97, and we have to say it's quite impressive. Absolutely no one will want to steal your phone once you've put this little beauty into action. Find out more below...
The Cityman 450 is based on the 1987 Nokia phone of the same name, and allows the N97 to snugly fit into the front of the casing:

Here is the user guide (and yes, that URL does work):

If you install the application at the above URL, you get an exact simulation of the real Cityman's keypad which lets you actually make phone calls (no contacts of course, you have to dial the numbers yourself):

To be honest we're not completely convinced this will ever make it into the shops, and the box does say it's a very limited edition product, but we thought you'd like to see it anyway... :-)

News Discussion
There's only 1 LL Cool J to knock people out, just not enough to go around.. With Cityman 450 even average Joes and phone-geeks can knock wrongdoers out. =)

They should get Chuck Norris to endorse this, especially as he's just got an Ovi Store game out:
Seeing how all the Nokia and Symbian based sites and blogs are getting this, soon we will know who has an N97 from the large brick they are carrying around (yes I meant the Cityman and not the N97 itself )
Yeah, slight flaw in the plan... :-D
I don't think many of us will be actually using this though, might go in the souvenir box.
Poor old Nokia N97, absolutely superb phone but doesn't get the credit it deserves because its UI isn't slick enough.
What's that got to do with the Cityman 450? :-)
Watched some Miami Vice repeated recently, they featured mobile phones quite heavily it seems. Must have been quite a status symbol back then along with fast cars and huge shoulderpads.
Bit late for April isn't it? cool, fun product but surely not a seller.
That's what I thought when I opened the package... :-)
I don't think Nokia have any intention of actually manufacturing this though, it's definitely a limited edition run purely for publicity purposes.
It's real in the sense that they really did send us this unit, and they sent it to a number of other sites too. And the software is real too, you can download it onto your own N97 from the URL in the photo above.
However, Nokia probably won't manufacture this on a large scale, it's just a bit of fun.
So yes it is a joke... :-)
How about some anti theft measures? Maybe a fingerprint reader to remove the N97 it or a motion detector.
A motion detector app would be very easy to do, it would just measure if the phone's accelerometer was reading anything above normal levels. Not sure how that would tell who is the real owner though...
Tried the application on 5800 and it works as well ;-)

Steve/Rafe, would it be possible to do a tribute to the N95 classic, considering it's age like you have done with the N93? I'm only saying this because I was thinking about how much of an improvement v31 is over v10 firmware and wondered if a comparison could be made between them? Nokia certainly excelled in their support for the device..
